People's Climate Strategy award nomination

Peoples climate strategy award nominationWe’re honoured and excited to announce that our People’s Climate Strategy for Victoria project has been nominated as a finalist for the 2021 Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Awards.  This project was an incredible grassroots effort carried out by over 1,000 people around the state in 2020 and 2021.  Read all about it.

Call for Snow gums citizen scientists

Snow Gums face a massive threat from the spread of dieback which is caused by a native beetle – and super charged by climate change, and localised collapse of snow gum woodlands due to more frequent fires.  Please join our citizen science project to map the extent of this loss.  Read more.


Backcountry film festival online tix

Presented by Winter Wildlands Alliance each year, the Backcountry Film Festival screens stories of outdoor stewardship, grassroots policy and advocacy work, backcountry adventure, and snow cinema by human-powered advocates, athletes, activists, and outdoor enthusiasts.  The 2021 festival will run from DEC 3 – 13 and features 14 films over two hours.  Read more & tix.


Anti-gold strategy meeting

With a growing number of local groups across Victoria opposing plans for gold exploration and mining, Friends of the Earth is helping to organise a state-wide gathering of campaigners to discuss strategies. All active local groups are invited to attend. It will happen in November 2021.  Read more.

 

Friends of the Earth Melb AGM online

Like many things in 2021, this Annual General Meeting will be a little different. We will host the AGM via Zoom 6pm (Melb time) 18 Nov to ensure that we remain compliant with the enduring COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings. We hope that you will join us as we report back on another year of grassroots activism during an ongoing global pandemic. Organising with us is a fun and rewarding way to get involved in organising for environmental and social justice.  We do things differently at Friends of the Earth: we don't have bosses! This means that when you come and volunteer with us, you won't be told what to do, but be invited to shape out tasks and projects as part of a small group of people just like you.  Read more & sign up.
