SIGN ON: Endorse FoE's 2035 Climate Target Submission

Unchecked climate change leaves communities exposed to intensifying bushfires, heatwaves, extreme weather, and rising sea levels.

Victoria has taken steps to rein in emissions and protect the community from climate impacts while Federal Coalition governments refused to act.

The Victorian government has initiated the process to set the country's first Emissions Reduction Target for 2035. It's an opportunity we can't afford to miss.

Friends of the Earth Melbourne has made a detailed submission to the panel advising the state government. We are proud to call for a science-based target of net-zero emissions by 2035.

Big polluters will be lobbying the government for weak targets to maintain business as usual... Will you sign on to Friends of the Earth's submission to show the government that the community wants action?

Victoria can build on its climate momentum, but only with a strong, science-based Emissions Reduction Target for 2035.

I support Friends of the Earth's submission to the independent expert panel on climate targets which calls for the government to:

  • Set a science-based target of net-zero emissions by 2035.
  • Commit to a 1.5°C carbon budget that is inline with global efforts to tackle the climate crisis.
  • Review and ratchet up Victoria's current target to halve emissions this decade.
  • Deliver a comprehensive plan to smash the 2030 target that accelerates the rollout of renewables; gets gas out of homes, businesses, and industry; and invests in clean electric buses.

If the government accepts these recommendations it will lock in a pipeline of jobs, attract investment to Victoria, and help protect communities from intensifying climate impacts.
