Women’s Health In the North (WHIN), in partnership with Northern Alliance for Greenhouse Action (NAGA), and Friends of the Earth (FoE), will be holding their International Women’s Day event, Climate Change and Women – A Conversation, on Saturday 13 March at 2pm, at the Coburg Concert Hall, Moreland Civic Centre, 90 Bell Street, Coburg.
If you want to know more about climate change and how climate change impacts differently on men and women, join us for an afternoon that will move and inspire you.
We are excited to announce that Dr Julie Drolet from Thompson Rivers University in British Columbia will be our keynote speaker. We’ll be linking up to her via video-link to learn about her research into climate change, disaster and sustainable development.
There will also be a panel of guest speakers including Jess Fritze, Kristine Olaris, Dalal Smiley and Jo Tenner who will share with us their knowledge about different aspects of climate change. Then it will be over to the audience for a Q&A—Tony Jones eat your heart out.
The afternoon will start with Kathleen Maltzahn, Executive Director of WHIN, sharing highlights of her time at the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference. Kathleen will be followed by the Brunswick Women’s Theatre who will perform for the very first time, a short scene that powerfully evokes the effects of climate change on women, including women who live in wealthy countries like Australia.
We’ll wind up the day with the wonderful voices of the Expressive Women’s Choir.
And if that isn’t enough, FoE, NAGA and Moreland Energy Foundation will have stalls and there will be yummy local, vegetarian food for you to enjoy.
And so you don’t go away empty-handed, there’ll be handouts to put you in touch with organisations in the region, that like WHIN, aren’t taking climate change lying down.
