WEEK OF ACTION for Clean Energy

The Victorian State Election is less than one month away... so Friends of the Earth and Environment Victoria supporters are joining forces for a week of action between Saturday Nov 7 - Sunday Nov 15. Will you join us?

Friends of the Earth is fighting alongside communities to pressure all 2026 state election candidates to support policies that will speed up our clean energy transition and make power cheaper for all Victorians. And in a time when cost-of-living is hitting Victorian communities hard, our message is cutting through: that clean energy energy cuts our bills.

But we're facing down big fossil fuel-backed money: the gas industry is spending big to lobby political parties and try to convince Victorians that we need more polluting, expensive gas in the system.

Join us for a week of action right before pre-poll opens to get our message out to as many people in our communities as possible: clean energy cuts bills, and anyone standing for election should be backing clean energy over fossil fuels!

HOW TO JOIN THE WEEK OF ACTION (NOV 7-15):

Joining in is simple. You can either join an existing event near you, or organise your own and let us know the details.

ORGANISING YOUR OWN EVENT:

If there's nothing happening in your local area, you can add your own action to the mix! It can be simple and small-scale or something bigger - whatever you have time for. An action could look like...

  • Handing out flyers at your local train station at peak hour
  • Handing out flyers at your local shopping mall/village strip
  • Flyering your street/block/neighbourhood
  • Asking if any of your neighbours or local shopkeepers want to display one of our clean energy signs in their window/fence
  • Standing on the footpath of a busy road and holding up our clean energy signs at peak hour
  • Or something creative...

RESOURCES:

SOCIAL MEDIA

Posting photos on social media during the week of action will be crucial to build pressure and visibility. Please take a selfie with the people you're with during your action, and post it with the hashtag #CheaperPowerVic. Tag all your local candidates so they know that community members are active in their electorate.

We'll also be publishing photos from the week on Friends of the Earth and Environment Victoria's social media. Tag us in your photos and/or email pics to [email protected] + [email protected].

NOTE: Flyering at train stations

Train stations have rules about where you can and cannot stand if you are handing out flyers. The boundaries can be different for each station, but for all stations you are not allowed to stand on the platforms or anywhere within the area that people have tapped on with their Myki. If you are asked to move by train station staff, clarify with them where you are allowed to stand and move outside the boundary, or move to another area like your local shopping strip.
