Friends of the Earth hosts regular field trips in the Wombat forest with representatives from the Galk-galk Dhelkunya (forest gardening) team of DJAARA. Our approach to their management of the Wombat is outlined here.
These work trips are a good chance to meet and chat with members of the team, ask questions about Djaara aspirations for the forest, and contribute some practical solidarity.
The worktrips happen at the test site in the Wombat Forest, which is managed by Djaara (just south of Daylesford, near Leonards Hill).
We generally do physical restoration work, such as cutting out gorse, so we ask people to wear suitable clothing and bring gloves and hand tools if you have them. The plan for this trip is to start on a section of gorse in a new area of the forest.
They are generally happening monthly from 11:00 to 14:00 on the fourth friday of the month, with the next one happening on Fri NOV 7. PLEASE NOTE that this is a date change because of weather conditions expected on OCT 31. (And please note this month is slightly shorter than previous trips, with an 11am start).
Meet: at 10.50am, at Sailors Falls Mineral Spring (2440 Ballan-Daylesford Road, Sailors Falls Victoria 3461) where there are public toilets, before driving on to the near by test site.
If you rsvp for the event we will send through full details on what to bring the week before the event).
