Will you join us as we convoy a couple of hours south-east of Narrm/Melbourne to learn how to survey for scats in one of the last remaining intact forests to the Strzelecki koala?
During our 2021-2022 surveys we have discovered at least three new koala colonies in Mullungdung State Forest, which previously, had never been surveyed for koalas. Few people realise that the Strzelecki koala is of national conservation significance due to its genetic diversity.
This is one of the local resident koalas to Mullungdung State Forest.
Vicforest have earmarked sections of this forest for logging, which could potentially see the destruction of habitat vital to the vulnerable Strzelecki koala and other neighbouring wildlife. It's incredibly important that we carry out these wildlife surveys, which in the past has helped to delay logging across Victoria!
Will you join us on a field-trip by engaging in citizen-science to learn how to survey for koala scats. You can learn one method of wildlife detection, and learn how we map presence of the Strzelecki koala, as well as how we build knowledge on koala feed preferences.
