The floods that have impacted central and northern Victoria have caused significant damage to many people’s homes and businesses and public infrastructure. Many thousands of people have already responded, with direct support and solidarity, through their involvement in organisations like the SES and CFA and informally through local support networks and just chipping in to help neighbours and the broader community. Disasters often bring out the best in people.
Here are some ways to support those who have been impacted.
First Nations
Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation
The Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) is working in partnership with Members to aid Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities who have been impacted by the devastating flood events across the state.
From Tuesday 18 October, the VACCHO roller doors will be open for donations of items of good quality clothing, blankets, non-perishable food items, and toiletries. In particular, VACCHO is appealing for donations of children’s clothing, and warm clothing including puffer jackets and windbreakers.
Donations can be made at the VACCHO office at 17-23 Sackville Street Collingwood between 9am and 4pm.
The donations will be distributed to Communities in flood affected areas across Victoria in collaboration with Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Organisation.
