6pm - 6:30 | 50 years of FoE Special Guest Panel!
Since 1973, we have defended and protected forests and waterways, stood as allies in the struggles for First Nations’ self determination and land rights, opposed uranium mining, protested the destruction of war and kept fossil fuels in the ground.
We have built thriving social enterprises that challenge the status quo, promote sustainable consumption, put workers first and help fund environmental and social action.
To celebrate this rich history of community led campaigns, for this special 50 Year of FoE Annual General Meeting we'll be bringing back some old friends to reflect on some of the key roles Friends of the Earth has played in shaping movements across Victoria and beyond.
This will be an online event not to be missed!
Announcing some special guests!

The campaign to end fracking.
In 2011, FoE launched a campaign to stop unconventional gas drilling and the process of fracking right across the state. After 6 years of campaigning we won a permanent ban on all unconventional gas drilling. This campaign was won through a massive grassroots effort, with 75 regional communities across Victoria declaring themselves Gasfield Free. Our win in Victoria has inspired campaigns around the world.

Land justice in the Barmah forest
In the 1990s and 2000s, FoE worked with the Yorta Yorta community along the Murray River (Dhungalla) to secure protection of the Red Gum forests and wetlands in Barmah. Eventually we helped win the creation of the Barmah national park, the first national park under joint management with traditional owners in Victoria.

Resisting the nuclear industry
Grounded in our support for First Nations rights, the Nuclear Free Campaign is our longest running collective. From blockading uranium mines, to resisting nuclear waste dumps and championing renewable energy, Friends of the Earth has been resisting all parts of the nuclear industry since our formation in 1973.
