Adaptation Alliance Call 9: Local Organising

On our 9th Climate Adaptation Activator call we explored local community organising, discussing Dindi Transition as an example.

Here's all the info, ideas and solidarity shared on the call, as well as some upcoming events and resources...

There's also an exciting Climate Resilience Inquiry update below!

On the call, we heard from Kim Croxford from Dindi Transition, a local community organising group based in Murrindindi Shire, that aims to connect people with their local environment, build community resilience to climate change and other challenges, and strengthen social networks. Kim is also one of Act on Climate's new community organisers, alongside other newbie Kimmi!

Then, together, we practiced relational meetings and shared our experiences and challenges when organising locally.

We also spoke about the Vic Gov Climate Resilience Inquiry's report being released this week and discussed how we might respond together - if you're interested in a coordinated response or amplifying others' responses reply to let us know!

------------------------------------------------

"Connected, informed, organised citizens can make good decisions about their own lives and implement ideas for the benefit of their communities. Community organisers create people-powered change through value-based conversations and collective action."

"Build trust. Show up, show up, then show up again. Volunteer in other local groups, attend local events, participate in process with local council and community groups."

"Go deep, get curious about values and motivations. What is their interest? What do they care about & why?”
- Kim Croxford, Dindi Transition

🙌 Resilience Inquiry Outcome Backs Us Up!

The Parliamentary Climate Resilience Inquiry report dropped yesterday, and our Victorian Community Climate Adaptation Fund is mentioned as a key funding mechanism proposed by stakeholders! Unfortunately it doesn't go as far as recommending it specifically, but it does recommend "providing adequate funding to community‑ based organisations to build climate resilience", which is what our fund would do.

Read our media release on the Parliamentary Climate Resilience Inquiry report: State Told to Step Up on Adaptation.

Please help amplify the report outcomes, the recommendation for funding and our fund if you can! Some ideas of how in the section below...
