Energy Justice Supporter Soirée

We warmly invite you to join us for a Supporter Soirée at Glou Wine Bar on Thursday May 7 from 6pm.

You might have noticed something... last year our name changed from 'No More Gas' to 'Energy Justice Collective'! We want to bring our supporters together so we can share an update on the new directions our campaign work is taking in 2026, and how you can help us take things to new heights.

The Context: Why Now?

As the 2026 Victorian state election approaches, the future of our energy transition is at stake. One Nation is quickly gaining support in the polls, and it shares the Victorian Liberal-National Coalition’s agenda to ramp up offshore oil and gas extraction and reverse the progress we have made on getting Victorian homes off gas.

Cost of living will be the main issue to dominate the election, and pro-gas parties will target disadvantaged communities with the message that more gas is the answer to their financial burden. We do not endorse any political parties, but we will work with communities in the middle and outer suburbs to put pressure on all candidates to offer policies that support affordable, fast and fair home electrification.

Meanwhile, old offshore oil and gas infrastructure along Victoria’s coastline is due to be cleaned up but operators are trying to dodge their responsibility. ExxonMobil Australia recently announced their intention to abandon large sections of 10 oil rigs on the bottom of the Bass Strait with more plans for sea-dumping to come.

With these multiple battles, we need to meet the moment with community-powered campaigns that are fighting for Energy Justice on all fronts.

Our Work in 2026

Come along to hear about our current campaign work, which includes:

  • Home electrification: we’re supporting marginalised communities in five streets across Melbourne's outer suburbs to save money by electrifying their homes and getting off gas.

  • Cleaning up our oceans: once we stop drilling for oil and gas, who cleans up? We're working in alliance with the Maritime Workers Union and other environment groups to ensure fossil fuel companies are made to clean up their own mess, and workers get the benefit of good jobs in decommissioning old oil and gas infrastructure.

  • Energy Justice volunteer collective: we’ve revamped our regular collective meetings and are building a core team of volunteers to drive our campaigns and build community support.

Energy Justice is about the future we want to see beyond gas: a socially just energy system that serves people and protects our environment, instead of being designed to fill big companies' coffers.

But we can’t do it without the support of passionate community members. Come along for some food and drinks and hear our pitch for how you can back us up in 2026.
