The Nuclear Free Collective invites you to dinner and a submission-writing session where we will share a meal, learn about the decisions being made (and not made) on radioactive waste management, and write individual submissions together.
After 30 years of failed attempts to dump radioactive waste on remote Aboriginal communities, there is finally a circuit breaker. The Australian Government has opened a public consultation on the future of radioactive waste management in Australia. And for the first time it talks about a decision making process - not just a proposal for a new dump site.
Before the government starts making these decisions, it is so important that we:
- get the strongest possible protections for First Nations people, communities, and the environment;
- don’t open the flood gates for international waste;
- don’t let this pave the way for Australia to keep increasing the volume and types of radioactive waste;
- limit the role of private companies;
- call out and oppose the high level radioactive wastes AUKUS will bring.
Having your say now is so important to set the right legal framework to help protect communities’ rights and interests and the environment from Australia’s worst wastes.
