March 11: National Day of Action: Fukushima. Never here.

March 11 is going to be a National Day of Action against nuclear power. We invite everyone to take  action on or around that day, however big or small. It could be organising an event, rally, theatrical action, webinar, or writing a letter to your local newspaper, posting on social media, putting a sticker on a community notice board or talking about nuclear with someone in your community. Please share your event with us and take lots of photos or a short video so we can promote it. To attend an existing event, have a look at what's on near you.

Ideas for actions:

  • Hold a local (theatrical) action, rally or protest
  • Get together with a few people in a public place, hand out flyers and have conversations about why nuclear power is not good for us. You can use the Don’t Nuke the Climate leaflet or make your own.
  • Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Tips here.
  • Visit, call or write to your MP about why you are concerned about nuclear power.
  • Take a picture to share on social media with #fukushimaneverhere, you can hold a sign with a message. Think of whether you want your face on the photo or get creative.
  • Put a poster, leaflet or sticker up at your local community notice board. Send us a photo of you putting it up and we can post it on the socials (showing hands not faces)
  • Join Don’t Nuke the Climate’s webinar on march 11. RSVP here.

On March 11 we commemorate 14 years since the terrible nuclear disaster in Fukushima. The impacts of this event are felt to this day with tens of thousands of people still displaced and tens of thousands of tonnes of contaminated liquid being routinely dumped in the Pacific.

Japan is a rich, technically sophisticated and modern country with  high safety standards., In these ways it is comparable to Australia – except that unlike Australia Japan has  decades of nuclear experience. If the Coalition’s nuclear power proposal were to go ahead, the risk of a nuclear accident is always present. It is simply not worth the risk.

Let’s show that we are not prepared  to be the next Fukushima.

We will be posting actions here. If you want to us to share your event, please email [email protected]

Don't Nuke the Climate is also running the following webinar on the evening of March 11:

Speakers: Dr Tilman Ruff, Medical Assosication for Prevention of War, Dr Jim Green, National Nuclear Campaigner Friends of the Earth, Sako Noda, Japanese monitoring volunteer after Fukushima disaster. MC Nelli Stevenson.
