The Victorian State Election is fast approaching... and community members around the state have already indicated that the climate crisis will be a key issue influencing their votes.
But we have a problem - both the Victorian Liberal and Labor parties' climate policies are still missing crucial pieces needed to tackle climate change with the urgency required this decade.
Join us for a creative community photo on Brighton Beach to highlight the fact that the major parties' climate policies still have missing pieces required for them to align with climate science demands.
How the action will work
We're asking people to bring along an object with an obvious 'missing piece' which they can hold up for a group photo on Brighton Beach, such as your bike with the seat unscrewed (the easiest part of a bike to remove and put back on).
With this photo, we'll cheekily demonstrate the message that something with missing pieces - be it a bike or a climate policy - doesn't work properly!
If you don't ride or own a bike, keep your eyes out for others ideas we'll share in the lead up for objects you could bring.
Before the action, we'll also hear from local community groups about the ideas they have for how the major parties can fill the gaps in their climate policies.
Getting to the action
We'll gather on Brighton Beach in front of Green Point and Foreshore Reserve, just a hop across the road from Brighton Beach train station.
If you like to get out and exercise, we will also be facilitating a bike convoy for people in surrounding suburbs to travel to the action along the beach bike trail.
State elections are an opportunity to steer the state towards a better future with new ambitious ideas. The government elected to lead Victoria for the next four years will have the responsibility of accelerating our emissions reduction pathway in this crucial decade.
We hope you can join us to keep the pressure on the major parties to align their climate policies with the urgency that climate science demands.
