Crowdfunder launched for Gas-Free Victoria campaign (Did we mention the matched donations?)

Victoria is the biggest user of gas in Australia. While polluting companies continue to promote fossil gas as a "transition fuel," communities are resisting new gas developments and calling for a rapid shift away from household and industrial gas use.

We're building a grassroots campaign for a Gas-Free Victoria—one that unites communities in the city, the suburbs, and rural and regional areas... But we need your help!

Will you support this important campaign by making a donation to our crowdfunder?

All donations up to $15,000 will be matched, dollar for dollar, by a generous supporter until the 28th February. (All donations over $2 are tax deductible).

In the fight against fossil gas, 2022 is a critical year to stop this polluting industry in its tracks!

Methane emissions from gas are already a key contributor to the climate crisis. With coal-burning power plants on their way out, it's critical that we cut off the fossil fuel industry's back up plan—entrenching gas use for electricity, in our homes, and in industry.

There is a real need to ensure the powerful voices of the community are heard above the noisy lobbying of a dying industry.

With your support, we will be able to ensure that a dedicated No More Gas campaigner can work alongside communities to push for a Gas-Free Victoria.

Here’s what we’ll be working on over the next 12 months:

The Victorian government will release its Gas Substitution Roadmap in 2022. It will outline either a fast or slow pathway to ending use of gas.

Friends of the Earth will work with grassroots groups and communities from across the state to produce a 'Community Roadmap'—a visionary alternative created in response to the Victorian government's roadmap that will outline the steps needed for a swift transition.

As long as there are new gas projects proposed, the community will resist them. And you can count on Friends of the Earth to work with frontline communities to organise creative actions, events, and mobilisations to stop new offshore gas exploration or drilling in pristine ocean ecosystems and food bowls.

Making a donation will supercharge the grassroots campaign.

It's not too late to stop the fossil gas industry from entrenching its interests and trashing our climate, oceans, and farmland.

With your help, Friends of the Earth and allies in community can take Victoria closer to a gas-free future.

PS: If you have questions, ideas, or want to get involved, please get in touch. We'd love to hear from you as we ramp up the campaign.
