As President of Truganina Residents Action Group, I am keen to ensure adequate bus transport. Some families have a single income because there is no other way for their kids to reach school due to poor bus network. If re-elected, I will continue to advocate for better public transport in our area, building on the work I began this term. As a Councillor, I attended meetings and events to highlight the lack of bus services, and as Mayor, I made public transport improvements a key issue in my discussions with State MPs. Our current bus routes are limited and restrictive, making us heavily car dependent, but I believe residents would choose buses if they were more accessible and appropriate. Public school buses could ease congestion at overcrowded schools, and improved bus services would also help people access jobs, shopping, and essential services more easily. Young people especially, a significant demographic in our community, often struggle with limited transport options to get to work, sporting facilities, and recreational activities. Small On-demand buses such as the trial in Tarneit North offer a promising solution to reduce traffic congestion and create a more connected, accessible community. |

I will constantly ramp up the pressure on Labor’s Fly In From Frankston Mat Hilakari, who parachuted himself into Point Cook, to actually do something for our community here instead of being a cheerleader for the Suburban Rail Loop. The Fly In, along with the members for Werribee, Tarneit and Laverton, must be shamed into committing the necessary funds to fully implement the Better Buses For The West plan. For Wyndham City to advocate for more bus services connecting Wyndham Residents to local job hubs. You should not be forced to drive to local work. As a part of this advocacy, seek a partnership with Hobsons Bay City Council, to build a bus network that gets you to where you need to be, on time. We need the State Government to enhance pedestrian access to public transport hubs (such as Train Stations). Not to mention more car parking as our population increases. If elected to the council, I will champion the need for better bus services to connect our community effectively. With only two train stations, Williams Landing and Tarneit, residents face significant challenges in accessing essential services, schools, and workplaces. Our public transport system must be inclusive and reliable. I propose the introduction of more frequent bus routes that link key areas of our community and enhance connections to the train stations. This will not only reduce travel times but also encourage more residents to use public transport, easing congestion on our roads. Additionally, I will advocate for community consultations to identify specific needs and ensure that bus services cater to all, including students and those with mobility challenges. If elected to Council, I would work to improve our bus services in several ways. First, I’d push for more frequent bus routes, especially during busy times, so people don’t have to wait long. I’d also make sure all bus stops and buses are accessible for everyone, including those with disabilities. Investing in better infrastructure, like dedicated bus lanes, would help buses move faster and more reliably. I’d listen to community feedback through public meetings to understand what residents need. Promoting electric buses would make our transit system greener, and I’d collaborate with nearby councils to create a more connected transit network to expend bus network beyond Wyndham. These changes aim to make public transport a better option for everyone. |

As a young person having grown up in Melbourne's West, I am familiar with the unsatisfactory public transport system. Having had to pay up for Ubers because buses are running too infrequently, walking long distances to get to the closest bus stop and being turned away because buses are at capacity during after school hours. I recognise the importance of an efficient bus network, offering a viable alternative to driving, providing young people and the elderly with greater independence and ensuring students get too and from school safely. I will champion better buses if elected to Council by advocating to state government for a modern and connected public transport grid that maximises efficiency and is fit to service the growing Western suburbs. I will continue to advocate and escalate this campaign for Better Buses here, as I have as a keynote speaker at Better Buses for the West Community Forums. This is a social justice issue, and the fact that Bus funding for the West has decreased since 2012 is an indictment on Government. I will continue to advocate for a semi-express and express electric bus service to and from Melbourne Airport via Sunshine Station. The basic infrastructure is already in place, and providing such a service would help create job opportunities for Brimbank residents at the largest employment precinct in the NW. It would also revitalise Sunshine and beyond, particularly given the oft promised ARL is 9 years away. I aspire to improve livability, road safety and connectivity of our suburbs. The western suburbs are in a unique position where decades ago the area was known for it's industry and factories. Subsequently, the roads and routes are tailored for truck and heavy transit. Over time as Melbourne grew, residential housing was retrospectively built into the area. For the most part, the road network here favors car and truck transit, rather than bike, pedestrian and public transport. This thereby alienates groups of the community who cannot drive, or do not have access to a car. |

I will also support the establishment of a local advisory committee to ensure the people that use the network the most are able to provide feedback on buses as a whole. |

Campaigning to reconfigure the western suburbs bus network, creating greater frequency and directness, and working toward cheaper fares. As it stands, public transport has greater usage among people in higher income brackets, reflecting hours of operation, access issues, and the radial nature of network. I would also like to explore options for shuttle services that service short trips in defined precincts and suburban areas (with schools, services, shops etc). Note from the collective: Jorge has shown consistent support for our campaign over the past few years. He has helped by facilitating access to community spaces, assisting with strategic planning and sharing posts on social media regularly. |

As a Maribyrnong City Councillor since 2020: a/ I've been involved in the LeadWest advocacy to improve bus services across the western suburbs, b/supported the notice of motion to support the Better Buses for the West campaign at Maribyrnong, c/ have attended a number of events as part of the Better Buses for the West campaign, d/ have chaired the Maribyrnong Active Transport Advisory Committee, and have moved to have it expanded to focus on integrated transport. If re-elected: a/ I'll continue my work advocating for improvements to public transport, b/ for more electric buses, c/ be pushing for Maribyrnong's current review of the Integrated Transport Strategy to include improved bus services, especially in areas where there are public transport gaps, d/ seek to hold a citizens assembly or similar to open up the discussion about transport equity within our community, e/ continue to work with councils across the western suburbs to improve bus services across the region. Note from the collective: Bernadette has shown consistent support for our campaign over the past few years. She has come to many of our events and some collective meetings. She is a strong PT advocate and in her time as Councillor has put forward a motion for Maribyrnong to endorse and support the better buses campaign. She also helped establish the Western Transport Alliance. |

I will advocate to the state govt to reduce delays for people on buses by optimising traffic signal cycle times, starting in the Hoddle Grid. I also commit to elevating the role of buses in the municipality by improving their integration into our streets, providing dedicated road space and supporting new low-impact bus technology. All diesel buses must be electrified or replaced urgently with electric buses in the interests of air pollution, traffic noise, human health and climate mitigation. |

Ensuring that Council's transport strategy focuses on a well-connected public transport network. I will: (1) advocate for better bus services in the north-west of Darebin where residents have very little access to reliable public transport (2) continue my advocacy for the development of accessible tram stops in High Street Northcote & Thornbury to ensure that passengers can easily transfer between buses and trams (3) work to reduce traffic congestion to improve the reliability of bus services by encouraging people to choose sustainable transport options, especially for local trips (4) work to improve bus stop infrastructure to support our diverse community. |

As a new mum navigating the streets of Melbourne with a pram, I know firsthand how crucial accessible transport is for families. I don’t have a driver’s license, so for over 20 years, I’ve relied on public transport and my bike to get around. This experience has shown me what works and what needs improvement. If elected, I’ll champion better bus services by pushing for an integrated transport strategy that really connects our community. I’ll support motions for more reliable and accessible bus and tram routes and gather input from locals. |

If elected to Stonnington Council, I will prioritize the establishment of a comprehensive integrated transport strategy, drawing inspiration from the Moving Melton prospectus. This strategy will focus on enhancing our bus network to ensure it meets the needs of all community members. I will advocate for motions that push for increased funding and resources for our bus services, working closely with local stakeholders to ensure their voices are heard. To foster ongoing community engagement, I will support and take part in a Public Transport Advisory and Advocacy Committee, creating a platform for residents to collaborate on transport solutions and share their experiences. Furthermore, I will actively participate in and promote community events focused on better buses, raising awareness of their environmental and social benefits. |
