Better Buses for Brimbank

Public transport is for everyone.

Melbourne’s Western suburbs are some of the fastest growing areas in the country.

Fast, frequent and connected public transport is one of the most crucial services that the government can provide to ensure equitable access to jobs, education, healthcare and other essential services. Better Buses will help to reduce car traffic, increase air quality and improve community livelihoods.

The Western Suburbs of Melbourne have traditionally been left behind when it comes to public transport, and the rapid population growth in recent years has further exaggerated gaps in Public Transport access. Communities across the West are left dependent on their cars and out of pocket too! With the cost of living on the rise, families across the West are bearing the brunt without adequate access to affordable transport.

Better Buses are an easy and cheap way for the government to ensure that communities stay connected.

Small, incremental changes will not do.. We need BIG, BOLD change to get people out of their cars and onto Public Transport!
Imagine a bus network with 10-minute frequencies and clean, electric buses that help us to reduce emissions!

In the lead up to this year's Victorian state election, we are organising a Better Buses for Brimbank community forum on November 2nd at the STACC in St Albans, on Wurundjeri Country

This forum will be Sustainable Cities' flagship event, and will include discussions of the intersecting issues that arise from having a broken bus network such as safety concerns, reduced access to jobs, housing developments with no PT, and more... Our Better Buses campaign provides a clear solution to many issues faced in the West.

The event will be hybrid in-person and online. A link to the webinar will be sent to all who RSVP.

Official running time will be 6.30-8.30, with half an hour each end for mingling & enjoying snacks and drinks.

During the first half of the event we will hear the community perspective on buses in Brimbank

  • Laura Aston, Greater Sunshine Community Alliance
  • Graeme Blore, Cairnlea Community Advocate
  • Dr. John Stone, University of Melbourne
  • Community campaigner from Disability Resources Centre
  • Danny Davis, Link Community Transport

We then invite the elected representatives and candidates for the upcoming state election to share their strategy & plans to transform the bus network, and ensure that the West keeps up with the rest!

Food is being provided by Cafe Sunshine & SalamateaSo bring some cash for the donations box, and make sure you grab a plate of the most delicious Persian food!
