Join us for international speakers, food, music & friends, to learn about and show solidarity with two vital international struggles.
We are proud to welcome two international guests—labor rights activist Sheung So from Hong Kong, and anti-mining activist Millicent Shungube from South Africa—both incredible women working to defend peoples' rights from the abuses of big business.
We would love you to join us at a special event to welcome Sheung and Millicent and to learn more about their struggles.
Snacks will be provided and meals will be available from the Friends of the Earth Food Coop. PLEASE get a ticket so we can judge how many people will want food.
Sheung So is an organiser and strategist with the Labour Education and Service Network, an organisation that supports workers movements in China. Sheung campaigns for better working conditions in the factories that produce the stuff we take for granted and is on the board of Electronics Watch.
Millicent Shungube is a representative from the Greater Phola Ogies Women’s Forum in South Africa. Phola is an informal town surrounded by 3 large coal mines, one of which is run by the Australian company South32. The Greater Phola Ogies Women’s Forum has begun a year-long investigation into the impact of the South32 mine on local women, and is campaigning for South32 to address their concerns and deliver on their commitments to the local community.
