Catherine Hearse - Works from the archives
Catherine Hearse is a Melbourne-based sculptor. This exhibition will showcase her collection of works titled Transfigured Matter.
The works cover a period of almost ten years and draw inspiration from a range of sources, including embroidery, plant science and the destructive nature of fracking. They share concerns about human relationships with the natural world, whether destructive, enthralled or compassionate. We are united by our interdependence and similarities, and many of the pieces are human/plant or human/animal composites.
The sculpture is constructed with crochet-cotton and wood, and there are crochet doilies based on microscopic cross-sections of plant parts.
