Street Rally: The Legacy of Shell

Right now, we have a window of opportunity to force Australia’s biggest polluting companies, including Shell, to pull their weight on climate action…

But will the Albanese government choose to Safeguard Our Climate, or protect polluter profits?

Join us for a street rally to hear about Shell's global history of environmental damage and dodging responsibility, and see if we can coax a Shell representative to come out of the building and tell us... Will they salvage their legacy and support a strengthened Climate Safeguard Mechanism?

Context

The Albanese government was elected with a mandate to reform and strengthen Australia’s ‘Climate Safeguard Mechanism’ to deliver deep emissions cuts from large industrial polluters this decade.

Shell has a global history of trying to dodge its responsibilities to communities, our climate and environment.

It is also one of the Dirty Dozen Polluters, Australia's largest coal and gas companies, which are expected to lobby the federal government to let them dodge real climate action and get away with avoiding strong emissions cuts.

The community's voice is urgently needed as a counterweight to the Dirty Dozen Polluters' lobbying. The Albanese government needs to see that the community is sick and tired of these companies being let off the hook when it comes to their responsibilities to act on the climate crisis.

Join us and our friends from climate action groups around Melbourne/Narrm to shine a light on Shell as one of the Dirty Dozen Polluters.

This action will take place on Wurundjeri country. Sovereignty was never ceded, this always was and always will be Aboriginal land. There can be no true climate justice without First Nations justice.
