FoE campaigners in Adelaide and Melbourne have been heavily involved in the debate about whether South Australia will become the world's high-level nuclear waste dump. We've been working on the assumption that this campaign will run for 5‒10 years but the past six weeks have seen some remarkable developments ‒ most of them positive. The project was effectively killed off, then revived, and has hopefully been killed off again ... hopefully!

Public forum, Tuesday May 24

Australia is once again talking nuclear waste, both on a national and international level - and targeting South Australia. This is an issue that concerns all Australians but particularly targets Australia's Aboriginal people. Come and spend an evening with us to learn about what is happening and what can be done!

The forum will bring Adnyamathanha Traditional Owners Regina and Vivianne McKenzie, whose land in SA's Flinders Ranges is being targeted for a national nuclear waste dump to Melbourne to talk about their struggle and what we can do to help.

Support Muckaty Traditional Owners on World Environment Day

For the past seven years there has been sustained community opposition to a federal government plan to dump Australia's radioactive waste on Aboriginal land at Muckaty in the Northern Territory.

Now Traditional Owners opposed to the dump plan are taking their case to the Federal Court with a trial starting on June 2 in Melbourne.

Friends of the Earth is hosting the annual Radioactive Exposure Tour from 12-27 April 2014.

Since the 1980s, the “Rad Tour” has taken thousands of people to the heart of the Australian nuclear industry, exposing the realities of “radioactive racism” and the environmental impacts of uranium mining.

The Anti-Nuclear and Clean Energy Collective (ACE) attended the Australian Nuclear Free Alliance annual conference in Alice Springs from 5th - 7th October. 

This has been a valuable and amazing few days packed with workshops, discussions and stories from around Australia talking about the destructive and dangerous nuclear cycle effecting people and country.

How have Australian scientists handled the difficult task of keeping us informed about the unfolding nuclear disaster in Japan? The first thing to note is that precious few Australian scientists have featured in the media.

A clear pattern is evident - those with the greatest ideological attachment to nuclear power have provided the most inaccurate commentary.

Despite local and national opposition, the federal government continues to pursue it's plans for a national nuclear waste dump at Muckaty in the N.T.

Now more than ever we must campaign strong and hard for this plan to be scrapped.
