After a three year long community campaign, the Victorian Renewable Energy Target (VRET) is already having an impact – the Daniel Andrews government is approving new wind farms, solar and energy storage projects.
These projects will deliver jobs and investment to regional Victoria, but this hasn't stopped the Matthew Guy opposition from trying to undermine renewables by making a misguided pledge to axe the VRET.
Malcolm Turnbull and the hard-right have forced the Victorian Coalition to take this stance against the VRET, a do-nothing approach that is out of touch with the vast majority of Victorians who love renewable energy.
If the Matthew Guy opposition is serious about Victoria's energy security they will:
Welcome the approval of new renewable energy projects like the Lal Lal wind farm, which will bring on new renewable supply while cutting carbon emissions and creating regional jobs.
Review their current opposition to the Victorian Renewable Energy Targets.
