After ongoing pressure from unions and the climate movement, earlier this year the Morrison Government and Energy Minister Angus Taylor committed to developing a national offshore clean energy framework. This legislation will be crucial to pave the way for landmark offshore wind projects like the Star of the South in Gippsland.
But we don't want to see these critical laws remain "under development" forever...we want to see the federal government bring on offshore wind as a matter of urgency.
The urgency of the climate crisis and the need to create good, climate friendly jobs demands it.
2020 is almost over and we’re still waiting for this important offshore wind legislation: Let's send Angus Taylor a message before Christmas.
The Morrison Government has shown little interest in taking action to address the climate crisis and is instead trying to divert public money to expanding gas projects and pipelines.
Time’s up. We need to apply some pressure to make sure offshore wind legislation is a top priority, not propping up fossil fuels.
Join us on Tuesday 1 December at 11am to send a message to key Coalition MPs we want to see national offshore wind laws brought to Parliament as a matter of urgency.
RSVP IS ESSENTIAL
At this collective online event we will be calling MP offices to make our voices heard. Don’t worry if you haven’t phone-jammed before, we’re running a briefing before we get started. Make sure you RSVP to receive access.
Australian could be the home of the world’s largest offshore wind farms: the landmark Star of the South project promises to deliver clean renewable energy to 1.2 million homes, creating an estimated 8,000 jobs and avoid up to 10 million tonnes of polluting greenhouse gas emissions.
Following the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic, building new renewable energy projects will be essential to creating new jobs and cutting polluting greenhouse gas emissions. That’s why we need to tell the Morrison Government to get a move on with offshore wind laws, and to start taking the climate crisis seriously.
Look forward to seeing you there!
