Our forests are under attack – join us for an urgent webinar.

Kuark_forest2_Oct_2017.pngThe environment minister’s office has refused to extend public consultation on alarming changes that would majorly deregulate logging in Victoria’s native forests and undermine community legal challenges to perceived illegal logging.

Join us for an urgent webinar with local environment groups as we break down some of the more insidious parts of the code changes and outline the urgent threat to our precious threatened species and ecosystems.

At a time when stronger protections are desperately needed for forests and wildlife after the catastrophic bushfires, the Department is hell bent on weakening the laws which govern logging. A major review of the bushfires’ impact on our forest landscapes is still underway, but the government is rushing through substantial changes to the Code of Practice for Timber Production. They have given communities less than a month to respond to the complex changes, which are spread out over more than 350 pages of documents.

Join us online tomorrow evening 6pm to 7.30pm to hear from Rubicon Forest Protection Group, Goongerah Environment Centre, Kinglake Friends of the Forest & Friends of the Leadbeater’s Possum about what we can do to apply public pressure and oppose these rushed changes to the timber code.

We acknowledge that this webinar will be hosted on the stolen, unceded lands of the Traditional Custodians of so-called Victoria. We pay our respects to the elders past and present of the land we are calling in from and to the Traditional Owners of the land we are campaigning to protect from native forest logging, including the Taungurung, Wurundjeri Woiwurrung, Gunnai Kurnai, Dhudhuroa, Jaitmathang, and Bidawel people. We also pay our deepest respects to the many Aboriginal activists fighting to protect their country from logging – the Sovereign protectors of the forests and the rightful custodians of these lands – and to any Indigenous people joining us on this webinar.
