We call on Victoria Premier, Daniel Andrews to strengthen and change legislation to protect koalas, hold logging and plantation companies to account for animal deaths, and work with experts and communities to ensure the long term viability of the species
- Strengthen protections the Victorian Wildlife Act (1975), and educate community members about the protections.
- Amend the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act (1988) in light of the huge pressures that the Strzelecki koala are facing.
- Conduct a public, 5 year audit of animal kills in South West Victoria looking at logging and plantation company responsibility, including for displaced animals.
- Commit to working with koala experts and community on a plan to deal with the long term health and viability of translocated populations in South West VIC and SA.
