Friends of the Earth Melbourne is hosting a community movie night in the heart of the city to raise money for the Sustainable Cities campaign. Money raised will go towards a continued effort to create a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and healthy future for transport in Melbourne.
For too long, government and politicians have prioritised the building of mega toll roads over the funding of public and active transport. More mega roads mean a long-term increase in road congestion, increased cost to commuters, and increased air pollution. It is unsustainable, and without adequate funding for public transport, Melbourne will soon become an unhealthy, gridlocked city.
But we are not without hope. The Sustainable Cities campaign supports decisions that that lower emissions, better connect communities and support climate resilience. The theme of this movie night is ‘Community Activism’, and it aims to show you what the power of a community can do when we rally together. Join us for the viewing of two amazing stories; 'Tunnel Vision' and 'Never Again: A Story About a Highway and Remnant Bushland', that prove that when citizens rise up and band together, we are unstoppable.
