AoC Update Sept 24: Adaptation Activator Kickoff & Resilience Inquiry Hearings Begin Amid Climate Impact Cleanup

Here is the Act on Climate crew's update on what we're up to, what's coming up, and ways you can get involved!

It's all happening! Our FCAV is set to support local leaders wanting to advance their community's climate adaptation. And Resilience Inquiry hearings have begun.

Are you keen to progress climate adaptation in your community? Are you ready to be your community's Climate Adaptation Activator?

We're excited to help you help your community adapt! RSVP here to attend our first online Activator call on Thursday, 3 October at 6pm.

We're also fired up for upcoming Resilience Inquiry hearings! We're ready to keep our Vic Community Climate Adaptation Fund recommendation on the radar of the Inquiry committee.

Read our media release on last week's Gippsland hearing. And, let us know if you can join us outside of an upcoming hearing to show support for funding community-led climate adaptation.

To prepare for locked-in climate impacts, we need adequate and ongoing funding for community-led adaptation initiatives! Let's get behind the push for funding, while simultaneously creating the solutions our communities need to keep each other safe.

Come meet the crew at our next social night or come to a collective meeting if you're keen to be a part of our campaign.

Timely Traralgon Climate Resilience Inquiry Hearing

While Gippsland was reeling from intense storms and havoc-wrecking winds due to climate change last week, the first Climate Resilience Inquiry hearing was held in Traralgon.

Gippsland community members joined us outside to show support for government funding of community-led climate adaptation.

We are calling for the committee to recommend a Victorian Community Climate Adaptation Fund (VCCAF) as a way to finance community groups for localised adaptation initiatives on an ongoing basis.

Read our media release to learn more about the climate impact concerns of people from Gippsland, as well as the actions and solutions Gippsland locals are calling for.

Keen to join us to show your support for funding community climate resilience at an upcoming hearing? Let us know!

The public hearing dates are:

  • 9 October - Melbourne
  • 10 October - Emerald
  • 23 October - Aireys Inlet (no longer in Warrnambool)
  • 6 & 20 November - Melbourne
  • 3 December - Macedon
  • 4 December - Wangaratta

Activate Climate Adaptation In Your Community!

We're all set for our first Climate Adaptation Activator call!

Want to progress climate adaptation in your community? The Frontline Climate Alliance Vic (FCAV) is starting online calls focused on supporting local leaders in Vic communities wanting to help progress climate adaptation locally.

Our first Activator call is happening on Thurs, 3 October at 6pm online.

The alliance is ready to step up local Climate Adaptation Activators wanting to make their community resilient in the face of unavoidable impacts. We will work together to share ideas, resources and solidarity for building resilience locally to keep those most at risk in your community safe.

On this first call, we plan to share our thoughts on ways Climate Adaptation Activators can start or continue the conversation around adaptation in their community, and hear from you what you want to accomplish and how we can help.

Join us to hear how you can progress your community's climate adaptation!

RSVP to our first Climate Adaptation Activator call on Thurs, 3 October at 6pm.
