Adaptation Alliance Call 6: Community Visioning

On our 6th Climate Adaptation Activator call we explored creating a whole-of-community vision for climate adaptation, dealing with conflicting ideas around our communities' future, and nurturing commitment to creating a shared vision of a climate adapted community.

Here's all the info, ideas and solidarity shared on the call, as well as some upcoming events and resources...

Our next call will be on Thurs 5 June 6pm - hope to see you there! RSVP here.

See the presentation here.

On the call, we shared ideas around how we can create visions that include and galvanise everyone in a community. We looked at different visualisation techniques for imagining the future we want.

We discussed conflict and minimising it by knowing the relevance of climate change to the community’s future, understanding the root causes of it and using good processes to avoid bad conflict. Finding common ground through connection, care and contribution ensures everyone's heard and has a role to play, and no one feels like they are being left behind.

We also soft launched our new website - Australia Climate Adaptation Map. Have a play and please let us know if you notice any issues!

We also heard updates from those on the call about how their local climate adaptation are progressing:

"Only a compelling vision of a less frightening and insecure future will recruit anyone to a progressive or revolutionary alternative future—or rouse apolitical citizens for the project of making that future.- Wendy Brown, political theorist
