September was a busy month, with the long-awaited National Climate Risk Assessment (NCRA) making headlines across the media. While many people focus on the bleak predictions of climate impacts, it is important to consider the immediately available solutions to reduce risks.
Victorian communities are already working on local climate adaptation solutions, such as the Nillumbik Climate Action Team (NCAT) with whom the Act on Climate Collective facilitated two Community Resilience Mapping sessions in September.
Next week, Act on Climate will be heading down the Surf Coast to connect with local climate action groups progressing climate adaptation. We look forward to learning more about local needs and building future collaborations to reduce climate risk. To support us with this work, please consider donating to or becoming a member of Act on Climate.

Nillumbik Community Resilience MappingIn September, Act on Climate had the privilege of facilitating two Community Resilience Mapping sessions in Nillumbik Shire, hosted by the Nillumbik Climate Action Team (NCAT). The engaging sessions in Eltham and Hurstbridge concluded with actionable ideas for community members to start working on. It was interesting to see the differences and similarities between the two sessions. The connectedness of community members and local networks emerged as foundational to keeping the community safe. Improved information sharing and accessibility and infrastructure was called for. Read more about the Community Resilience Mapping sessions and identified risks, strengths, and gaps and solutions in Eltham and Hurstbridge on our blog. |

Telling Stories of Community AdaptationAct on Climate is committed to amplifying the stories of communities who are on the path to climate resilience, and supporting those who are just getting started. We can shape our communities into ones that keep everyone safe by coming together to determine our unique needs, then visioning and implementing localised climate adaptation projects. And help us get adequate and ongoing funding for climate adaptation by emailing your MP asking them to advocate for adequate climate adaptation funding in next year's budget. |
Next Adaptation Activator Call: 13 Oct 6pm
Our next Climate Adaptation Activator call is coming up on Mon Oct 13 at 6pm. We'll explore case studies highlighted in the Resilience Inquiry report as practical examples building local resilience.
We'll also hear from you how your local climate adaptation projects are progressing, or about any projects you want to start, so that we can support each other as a network.

Together we can help prepare communities for now unavoidable climate impacts!
