heritage bushland property to be bulldozed for Peninsula freeway

Joyce and Simon Welsh, owners of the historic Westerfield property on Robinsons Road in the Green Wedge south of Frankston have been notified that clearing will begin on Monday 5 July on the 2.656 ha of their pristine remnant bushland property to be bulldozed to make way for the Peninsula Link Freeway.

In response a community picket has been established.

Australia's first zero carbon housing project hits a hurdle

For the past 8 years environmentalist Brendan Condon has been working to build Australia’s first zero carbon housing project at Cape Paterson near Wonthaggi. This  Ecovillage will build 200 highly sustainable houses.

Kelvin Thomson backs closure of Hazelwood - who's next?

Kelvin Thomson, the member for the federal electorate of Wills, has endorsed the campaign by the Victorian climate change movement for the closure of the ageing and dirty Hazelwood coal fired power station. It is possible to replace it with a mix of energy efficiency measures and renewwables. In doing so we would generate many new jobs.

'Energy Future' paper sets the scene. Climate White Paper must drive transition from coal.

Friends of the Earth has welcomed today's release of 'Victoria's Energy Future' by the Minister for Energy Peter Batchelor.

We acknowledge the fact that the Brumby government is taking such a proactive approach to transforming our energy sources towards a low carbon future. The White Paper must fill in the details on exactly how Victoria can move away from its historic reliance on coal, oil and gas to generate energy.

Lead levels in Ballarat Drinking Water Alarming

Yarra Ranges Shire grants approval for Eastern Golf Club

Friends of the Earth is extremely disappointed that Yarra Ranges Shire, gave approval at Council's meeting on Tuesday June 22, for the construction of the Eastern Golf Club at Yering.

The new course is to be built on the Yarra River floodplain, only one kilometre upstream from Melbourne's drinking water supply.
